When should I plan to arrive and depart?
We hope that you will plan to arrive early before all activities begin on Wednesday morning and to depart after the final sessions and keynote on Friday afternoon. Depending on where you are flying from, this may mean you will need to arrive on Tuesday and/or depart on Saturday (though we will likely wrap up by lunch on Friday, with plenty of time to catch an afternoon flight). Do you offer meals for those with special dietary needs?
You may note any dietary preferences/needs on your registration form. If you forget or if your situation changes, just shoot us an email! We make a point to offer vegetarian options at all provided meals, and we use local companies and caterers who can easily accommodate vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free diets. But we are happy to work with you on any needs you might have.
Please notify the Dalton Institute staff upon registering for the conference if assistance or special arrangements are needed. Partners of participants can be included in some Dalton Institute meals and activities at an additional cost. Prior arrangements must be made.
What is the weather like in Tallahassee during January?
Winter conditions in Tallahassee are usually seasonably moderate. Typical February highs range in the upper 60s, with lows in the mid 40s. We’ve seen everything from chilly rain to beautiful sunshine during previous Institutes.

What should I bring to the Dalton Institute?
The Dalton Institute is hosted on campus at Florida State University. We try to minimize travel between buildings on campus, but it is possible that sessions/events may be held in multiple campus facilities. We encourage you to prepare adequately by wearing comfortable shoes for walking, and feel free to dress casual.
The Dalton Institute facilities are very near each other (neighboring buildings, less than a 2-3 minute walk), and we have done our best to ensure ample time to move between buildings. If you require any assistance, please contact the Dalton Institute coordinator and we will be happy to accommodate you.
We also encourage you to bring an umbrella, a pen/pencil and pad for writing, and possibly a folio or bag to carry Dalton Institute materials as provided by program presenters.
Informal attire is acceptable for all conference activities. Most participants dress in casual or business casual attire; we want you to wear whatever you are comfortable in! As a small institute, keep in mind that you will have plenty of opportunities to network and engage with colleagues, graduate students, and keynote speakers.
What is there to do in Tallahassee?
From recreational to leisure activities, Tallahassee offers something for everyone. Nearer to Atlanta than Miami, Tallahassee is “The Other Florida” in attitude, topography, climate, and lifestyle. Exquisite and unique dining (and plenty of great casual dining, too), multiple museums and exhibits, eclectic art districts, and award-winning parks are just a few of the attractions that make Tallahassee so special.
