Frequently asked questions:
When should I plan to arrive and depart?
The 2010 Dalton Institute is scheduled to begin with a Keynote Speaker on Thursday afternoon, February 4. Conference activities will continue after the Keynote on Thursday and everything will formally end on Saturday, February 6 after lunch. This year we will offer transportation to Wakulla Springs, the former home of the Dalton Institute, on Saturday afternoon for those individuals who wish to enjoy some of the wonderful Big Bend Area scenery. Wakulla Springs offers a wide range of activities including a glass bottom boat tour and nature trails. More information on Wakulla Springs can be found here.
We hope that you will plan to arrive early before all activities begin and that you will schedule your departure after the final activities on Saturday afternoon. Depending on where you are flying from, this may mean you will need to arrive on Wednesday, February 3 and/or depart on Sunday, February 7. We have arranged special travel discounts to assist you in pricing. Please see the Hotel & Travel Accomodations page for more information.
Do you offer special meals for those with dietary concerns or special dietary needs?
Provision for special dietary needs must be requested when registering for the Dalton Institute. Meal alternatives will not be available unless arranged in advance. Please notify the Dalton Institute Coordinator (values@admin.fsu.edu) two weeks prior to the conference if assistance or special arrangements are needed. Partners of participants can be included in Dalton Institute meals and activities at cost. Prior arrangements must be made.
What is the weather like in Tallahassee during February?
Winter conditions in Tallahassee are usually seasonably moderate. Typical February highs range in the upper 60s, with lows in the mid 50s. The 2008 Institute was fortunate to have exceptional weather, with sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s during the day. Previous Institutes, however, have had less than ideal conditions, with rain, wind, and chilly temperatures.
As weather conditions may vary, please check weather.com for our most current local forcast prior to your departure.
What should I bring to the Dalton Institute?
Due to re-construction of the Turnbull Conference Center, the Dalton Institute will be held on the campus of Florida State University in multiple buildings. We encourage you to prepare adequately by wearing comfortable shoes for walking, which will be kept as minimal as possible. The Dalton Institute facilities are near each other (less than 2 or 3 minute walk), and we have done our best to ensure ample time to move between buildings. If you require special assistance, please contact the Dalton Institute Coordinators (values@admin.fsu.edu). We'll be happy to accomodate you.
We also encourage you to bring an umbrella, an ink pen or pencil for writing, and possibly a bag to carry Dalton Institute materials as provided by Program Presenters.
Informal attire is acceptable for all conference activities. Most participants dress in business casual for the concurrent sessions and a little more formally for the Opening Reception and Dinner.
